HSBA appoints Dr Maria Bockhahn as Professor of Business Informatics

Prof Dr Maria Bockhahn brings international research experience and many years of practical experience in the digital economy to the table. She focuses on artificial intelligence, data processing and software development in order to prepare students for the challenges of the digital world in a practical way.

The HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration is delighted to welcome Dr Maria Bockhahn, a physicist with extensive practical experience, as its new professor of business informatics. Maria Bockhahn completed her doctorate at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) and subsequently worked in the digital economy for many years. Her return to science and teaching is a reflection of her passion for research and knowledge transfer.

"After my time as a guest lecturer at HSBA, it was my express wish to return to teaching and research on a permanent basis. My professional career has been shaped by digital transformation, technological progress and the desire to convey complex knowledge in a way that is understandable and practical. The interfaces between artificial intelligence, data processing and software development form the focus of my work. At HSBA, I can use my experience to inspire students to engage with these forward-looking topics, provide them with sound analytical tools and prepare them for challenging tasks in a digital world," said Professor Maria Bockhahn about her appointment.

Prof Dr Bockhahn has over ten years of professional experience in science and business. Her expertise includes the development of digital products, data-driven decision-making processes and the establishment of complex data infrastructures. She earned her doctorate in physics at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research (CERN) and the University of Hamburg, focusing her research on big data processing and the development of digital applications for the Large Hadron Collider. From 2019, she taught for several years as a guest lecturer at HSBA, and knowledge transfer has also played an important role throughout her professional career. In her role as Director of Data Operations at Sport Alliance GmbH, she led an interdisciplinary team and implemented a modern data warehouse.
