HSBA Alumni Association

Home of Friends

The HSBA Alumni Association is the bond that binds all former students of HSBA and the "Wirtschaftsakademie Hamburg" into a worldwide network. HSBA alumni exchange ideas, celebrate, expand their horizons, help each other and support their alma mater, in which the club has an eight percent stake. Each member enriches our connection and all former students are welcome in the "Home of Friends" – Friendship is an integral part of the HSBA Alumni Association.

As friends, we all participate in network meetings and share our knowledge with friends and students. Membership is straightforward and cheap – sign up or contact Judith Heise

Networking – Celebrating – Shaping

Networking

On our alumni website on Facebook, Xing and LinkedIn you can find former fellow students, specialists from all years, know-how, advice and maybe even an interesting job. You can expand your horizons and your personal network at industry round tables, lectures at the Bucerius Law School, the Chamber of Commerce and the Versammlung eines Ehrbaren Kaufmanns zu Hamburg.

Celebrating

Twice a year, HSBA alumni get together for Homecoming: on the last Saturday in June on the roof of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce in the shadow of the Town Hall Tower, and in December with appropriate attire. In between, there are local and year group regulars' tables, Alumni@home at one of our members' homes and many other activities.

Shaping

The HSBA Alumni Association is closely networked with HSBA, the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, the Versammlung Eines Ehrbaren Kaufmanns zu Hamburg, Bucerius Law School and other alumni organisations. This results in cooperation and always new starting points for shaping our lives, our careers, our professional environment and our society.

The Alumni Board Management

The alumni board management comprises members from all years of graduation and manages the association. It meets once every quarter to organise the activities and events and develop the association going forward. Management would be delighted to hear your suggestions and ideas for the future of the association!

Current overview of HSBA Alumni Association Board Members:

  • Chairman of the Board: Mats Brandt | HSBA '15
  • Chairman of the Board: Konrad Gruner | HSBA '15
  • Co-Chariman of the Board: Alexander Freier | HSBA
  • Member of the Board: Katharina Hess | HSBA '18

Mats Brandt (Chairman)

As financial controller and accountant at Beiersdorf AG, Hamburg's only DAX company, Mats' main tasks include interim and annual reporting for the consumer goods manufacturer. A widely networked network in the global corporate functions, but also with financial colleagues all over the world, is of great importance in mastering these tasks. Report generation and reporting require a permanent exchange with internal and external stakeholders. This is one of the reasons why he appreciates the large network that students at HSBA already develop during their studies. Maintaining and expanding this and the community is the motivation for Mats' commitment to the board of the Alumni Association:
"During my studies at HSBA, I learned one thing: the student community is the most valuable asset and a unique selling point of our university. That's why, together with newly found friends, I have worked intensively on the further development of this community and actively participated in numerous events, study trips and sports events. It is important to me to keep the community together even after the active study time".
The tasks of Mats on the board of the Alumni Association therefore include the integration of new alumni, yearly meetings for the cohesion of the community and other events.

Konrad Gruner (Chairman)

As Executive Assistant to CEO at Blockchance, Konrad pursues his passion for events and technology in his professional life as well. As a conference organizer and service provider for blockchain and AI, Blockchance is a hub for Hamburg's growing high-tech scene. There, Konrad looks after the partners as well as the education sector, which is currently being developed. This continues what began after his studies: a commitment to education. Konrad stayed on at HSBA as a staff member for a year before continuing to represent the interests of students and alumni on the board of the Alumni Association. For him, togetherness and the communication of values are the most important things at HSBA and the Alumni Association:

"HSBA has given me an incredible amount in my three years as a student. I was able to actively participate in the Events Committee and the Student Council, and I was able to see how the commitment of many has grown into an incredible, cross-year community that still exists today. The sense of belonging at HSBA and the opportunities for students to shape it are truly a unique selling point. The integration of traditional Hanseatic values through VEEK into the curriculum have given teaching that extra something that is missing at many universities."

That's why Konrad also looks after events on the board and important partners like VEEK.

Alexander Freier (dep. chairman)

Alexander was elected to the Alumni Association Board of Directors as Vice Chair in December 2020. "I am very pleased to remain closely connected with HSBA's former students through the Alumni Association and to be able to actively shape our ‘Home of Friends’”, says Alexander, who has been an employee of HSBA since 2010. As a member of the university management and Head of Marketing & Sales, he is the contact person for HSBA's 300 cooperating companies and is also responsible for recruiting future students. In addition to press relations and social media, his department plans and executes all of the university's events. "This results in many interfaces with the activities of the Alumni Association", Alexander is pleased to say.
