Accommodation: Pretty much all ERASMUS students live in El Zapillo. This part of the city is right in between the city center and the university. It is very common that students share apartments in this area, so you will always meet friends when going outside. I paid 390€ a month with all expenses included for a modern but small room in a four-person-apartment. You can find apartments on idealista.es and visit them in person when you get there.
Transportation: To get to the university I took the bus. It only takes 15 minutes , the bus come and go very regularly and it’s very cheap (13€ per month).
Food: I recommend trying as much food as possible (my favorite Tapas bars are Casa Puga, La Cala and El quinto toro).
Activities and more: In the first two weeks Erasmus Student Network (ESN) organizes activities each day.  The activities such as beach volleyball, city tours or talent shows are great for meeting people in the beginning. ESN also organizes parties in our standard club “La Clásica” every Thursday, where we get in for free and enjoy beer for free. And ESN also plan trips to Gibraltar, Granada, Portugal, Madrid or Sevilla. Those are pretty cheap and well organized so I would recommend them for sure. Only 30 minutes east from Almería you can find “Cabo de Gata”. This national park is known for it’s untouched beaches and beautiful landscape. Definitely a must visit.
