University
IAE Business School is triple accredited (AMBA, ASCSB, EQUIS) and ranked number 6 in the list of best business schools in Latin America. The university is located on the campus of Universidad Austral in Pilar, roughly one kilometre from the centre of Buenos Aires. It offers post-graduate programmes, including various MBAs, EMBAs and Executive Education and PhD programmes, some of which are carried out in cooperation with Harvard Business School. The aim is to train students for management and leadership positions. The university works closely with business associations and the public sector. More than half of the students have an international background. The heterogeneous nature of the courses makes it easy to access different business cultures and values in the global professional environment.
City
The capital city of Argentina is also the industrial and commercial centre of the country. The name Buenos Aires derives from the patron saint of seafarers Santa Maria del Buen Aire, thus indicating the historical importance of the port. About two million people live in the city, and this figure increases to 12 million if you include the surrounding areas. If you want to see the real Buenos Aires, you should learn to tango in La Catedral and take part in a tango show with dinner in the Teatro Colón, go to one of the numerous museums, wander through the markets of San Telmo and Recoleta, take a boat trip to Tigre to the market at the port, join one of the free city tours or explore the city on a bike and relax in the Puerto Madero Nature Reserve or in the Japanese Garden. Buenos Aires province is also where you will find Pilar, an exclusive residential area for over 200,000 inhabitants with 16 polo clubs and the headquarters of IAE Business School.
Accommodation
There are no student halls on campus, but there are lots of apartments for rent in Pilar. The Recoleta, Palermo, Barrio Norte, Belgrano, Cañitas and Nuñez areas of Buenos Aires are recommended. Country
Argentina derives from the Latin “argentum”, meaning silver. This is a reference to the treasures that the conquerors expected to find in this country. It is the largest Spanish-speaking country in the world and is home to the Argentine tango. The broad expanse of Argentina with the dry savannah Gran Chaco to the north, the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Pampas to the south and the Andes to the west means that the country is divided into several climate and vegetation zones. Approximately 90% of Argentinians descend from European settlers, mainly from Italy and Spain, and it is well known that they are deeply passionate about football. But polo, boxing, motor sports and rugby are also very popular. The traditional dishes include the famous beef, prepared on a wooden grill, as well as a corn stew called locro and stuffed pastries called empanadas – best served with wine or mate. By the way, the mate is served warm; the cold version is called tereré.
