Accommodation: I connected with other exchange students from ALBA and searched for accommodation with another student from Hamburg. Finding a place turned out to be challenging, as certain neighborhoods in Athens are best avoided, especially for women. As our rented Airbnb had several issues the ALBA staff helped us rent one of their accommodations. We paid 500€ per person.
Transportation: public transportation is mainly bus-based, but due to heavy traffic, walking is sometimes faster. A monthly transport pass costs around 17€ for those under 25 and 35€ for those over 25.
Food: one thing I particulary loved about Greece was the café culture. Even the smallest bakeries had professional espresso machines, and cafés transformed into lively bars in the evening. The vibrant outdoor culture was something I greatly enjoyed.
Activities and more: ALBA did not organized many activities. However, we joined the ESN network at the state university, which hosted weekend trips and various events. Through this, we were able to meet other internationals and build friendships. The internet in Athens is less developed, which sometimes affected my work, especially during calls.
