Approximately 1,000 students are enrolled at UoN. There are two faculties and three departments at the undergraduate level, as well as two graduate schools that are primarily for working professionals. Of particular relevance for HSBA students is the Faculty of Global Management Studies (Department of Global Management Studies). The University of Nagano has approximately 1,000 full-time students, including some international students. Its academic quarter system is well suited to the academic structure and credit recognition processes at HSBA.

With its Center for Social Innovation Initiatives (CSI), which serves as a mediator between the university and the business and civil society in and outside of Nagano Prefecture, UoN actively engages in industry-academia collaboration. At the Department of Global Management Studies, where students from HSBA are most likely to be based, students are trained to develop an global outlook with a keen sense of entrepreneurship, to become business leaders harnessing the resources of the local community, or to become community leaders through public services.
