Dual Studies in Hamburg

Business Administration and Business Informatics degrees

Students who wish to focus on acquiring specialist business skills are well advised to take the dual Business Administration (BSc) course. It combines practical business skills with systematic training within a company.

The focus in the first two years of study is on methodological competence, with the third year of study preparing students optimally for work in the respective industry through role-based specialisations. While 25% of the Business Administration (BSc) degree is taught in English, all the modules of the International Management (BSc) degree are taught in English.

The Business Informatics (BSc) dual course of studies also focuses on business administration. However, the traditional business aspects from the areas of financing, marketing and accountancy are combined with in-depth knowledge of business informatics. The focus here is on the design and programming of software, software engineering and project management.

The structure of the courses of study include a theory and a practical phase per term, in which the relevant specialized knowledge is applied in practice.

Dual Business Administration Studies

in the fields of Logistics and Media

The HSBA offers a dual business administration degree in Hamburg with a special focus on different industries.

In the Logistics Management (BSc) course, students acquire the basics of business management and supplement them with selected contents which are adapted to specific industries and supplemented with specialized logistics modules. Although the course is held in English, individual modules in German can be selected.

The Media Management & Communication (BSc) degree has a 25% English-language component and offers business management and media-specific modules which are systematically combined and applied in a practical phase at selected media companies or advertising agencies.

Continuing Education through Part-time Studies in Hamburg

In addition to a dual programme of study, HSBA also offers a part-time study programme Versicherungsmanagement (BA). This is aimed at employees from the insurance industry who would like to improve their methodological competence as well as their specialist and management skills through an academic, industry-specific course of study.

The prerequisite is completed vocational training as an insurance and finance administrator and further training as an insurance specialist.

The part-time lectures take place on Friday afternoons and Saturdays and are supplemented by a block week per semester. The course is taught in German, with an optional module in Insurance English being offered.

Can I apply for a study place directly with HSBA?

No. Students can only study at HSBA if they have concluded a contract of study with a training company. To apply with a company is always the first step in the application process.

What are the options of studying abroad?

About 30% of HSBA's Bachelor students spend time abroad during their studies (mostly short-stay at Summer Schools or as an exchange student with one of our partner universities). In the third year of studies of the dual programmes, students can go on an international study trip. Furthermore, HSBA attaches great importance to the international character of its content, offering a wide range of seminars held in English. Fore more information, please see here.

When should I start with my application?

Anyone interested in taking a dual Bachelor programme should normally start looking for a training company at least one year before they intend to start their studies. The application to the company should include all the usual documents, such as school and examination qualifications and CV. The company then sends the study contract together with the necessary documents to HSBA, which checks whether the criteria for admission are fulfilled, and if so accepts the applicant.
