There is always something happening at HSBA...
On 2 October, HSBA celebrated with more than 1000 guests the farewell of 287 graduates and the start of 380 new students in the great Börsensaal (“Exchange Hall”) of the Chamber of Commerce. A good opportunity to review the year and give a brief outlook on the future of the university.
As every year, the graduation ceremony for HSBA graduates took place in a festive setting with high-ranking speakers from the university and companies and with the participation of student representatives. The graduates proudly accepted their certificates and were able to express their joy and relief not least by throwing the berets for the traditional final photo.
Among HSBA’s highlights from the last year were the re-accreditation by the German Science Council, the participation of the Alumni Association as co-partner of the HSBA and the refinement of individual study programmes (MSc Real Estate & Leadership, MBA Corporate Management) as well as the opening of SQUARE, the HSBA Innovation Hub. With SQUARE, HSBA has repositioned itself as a competent innovation partner in Hamburg's digital ecosystem. SQUARE relies on the close connection between science and business, the core competence of HSBA, and accompanies businesses on their way to digital transformation.
The results of the last company survey were extremely positive and encouraging, showing that 98% of partner companies in the Bachelor programmes and 100% of partner companies in the Master programmes are satisfied with their current students. In addition, 98% of Bachelor students are taken on by their company after completing their studies.
For the upcoming year HSBA remains committed to progress and development: After 15 years, for the first time since the university was founded, there will be a change at the top level: Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, acting president and initiator of HSBA, will hand over his office to Prof. Dr. Insa Sjurts in January 2020, acting president of the Zeppelin University. It is her concern to advance HSBA further on its way into a digital and global future. [Link to press release] Also on another level HSBA will take a step forward in the next year: In spring, the university will move from the building at Alte Wall 38 under a new roof at Willy-Brandt-Straße 75. The new location is aligned to the requirements of a modern, agile university and offers plenty of space for creative and digital work. A location with a future for a university of the future. HSBA's partner companies include Airbus, Budni, Commerzbank, ECE Projektmanagement, Ernst & Young, HanseMerkur, Hapag-Lloyd, Jungheinrich or Philips as well as smaller and medium-sized companies like C. Illies & Co., agiles, heyconnect, FKS Friedrich Karl Schroeder or Initiative Media. The fact that Hamburg's business community has great trust in the university is also reflected in the extremely successful development of student numbers: While there were 75 students enrolled when HSBA was founded 15 years ago, there were already over 1000 enrolled by the beginning of the academic year 2019.
This year's Teaching Award for part-time teachers was presented to Jennifer Duseux-Brune. Congratulations!
