There is always something happening at HSBA...
Founding President Schmidt-Trenz plans to hand over his office at the end of 2019
HSBA has set up a finding commission under the leadership of former Science Senator Dr. Jörg Dräger, made up of high-ranking representatives from science and industry. The founding president, Prof. Dr. Schmidt-Trenz, declared to retire from the university’s academic management at the end of 2019.
Prof. Dr. Schmidt-Trenz explains: “As founding president I have led HSBA since 2004 and am proud of what has been achieved. I informed the committees at an early stage and before my last election that, after 15 years, I now wish to place university management into the hands of a successor. I am delighted that we have been able to put together, with the assistance of all members of the university, a high-level finding commission. Looking for the right candidate has now begun. As soon as a suitable successor has been found and the hand over date agreed upon, I will step down. This is ideally at the end of 2019, but luckily there is no time pressure which gives us the option to wait for the right person who will shape the university in the years to come.”
Dr. Jörg Dräger, Member of the Board of the Bertelsmann Stiftung and Managing Director of the Center for Higher Education Development (CHE), takes on leadership of the Commission appointed by the University Council: "I am delighted to be able to accompany HSBA during the finding pro-cess. A dynamic university needs dynamic leadership. In a digitalising world we are looking for a person who combines academic excellence with a strong connection to industry. This is exactly what the successful dual HSBA model stands for," says Dr. Jörg Dräger.
Also part of the finding commission are Prof. Dr. Henning Kagermann, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech) and former Chairman of SAP, Alexander Birken, Chairman of the Otto Group and HSBA Board of Governors, Dr. Joh. Christian Jacobs, Chairman of the Board of Joh. Jacobs & Co and HSBA Board of Governors; Hariolf Wenzler of Baker McKenzie and HSBA Board of Governors as well as other university members. "We are well positioned with this team. We are proud that we were able to win such experienced representatives from science and industry and look forward to productive meetings and a rewarding result, "says HSBA Vice President, Prof. Dr. Inga Schmidt-Ross.
Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz has been President of HSBA since 2004. Under his aegis, the HSBA has grown from 75 to 1000 students. Today, the HSBA has 15 study programs, employs 30 professors and cooperates with more than 250 partner companies.
