Change in the presidency as of January 2020: Prof. Dr. Insa Sjurts succeeds Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz

Prof. Dr. Sjurts, acting President of Zeppelin University has been elected new President of HSBA. She has been appointed by the Board of Governors at today's University Council meeting with effect as of January 2020.

Prof. Dr. Sjurts, acting President of Zeppelin University has been elected new President of HSBA. She has been appointed by the Board of Governors at today's University Council meeting with effect as of January 2020. The finding commission, headed by former Science Senator Dr. Jörg Dräger, had unanimously spoken out in favour of her. "I thank the University Council and the Board of Governors for the trust they have placed in me and look forward to my new responsibilities," says Sjurts. "HSBA is a dynamic university with excellent teaching and research. I want to build on this and lead the university, together with all its members, into the digital and global future". 

Prof. Dr. Insa Sjurts succeeds Prof. Dr. Hans-Jörg Schmidt-Trenz, HSBA’s acting president since 2004 and initiator of the private university. Already last year he declared that he intended to resign from academic management of the university at the turn of the year 2019/20. At its meeting, the University Council thanked Schmidt-Trenz for his extraordinary services to HSBA. During his presidency, the institution grew in size to host 1000 students and employ 30 professors. Schmidt-Trenz explains: "I am very pleased that HSBA has become an important component of Hamburg as a university location. I thank our partner companies for their trust and am convinced that we have found the right successor to successfully lead HSBA into the future. I wish Insa Sjurts all the best for her presidency". 

Prof. Dr. Insa Sjurts grew up in Hamburg where she studied business administration and social economics. In 1994 she earned her doctorate at the Helmut Schmidt University with a thesis on "Control, Controlling and Corporate Management". Theoretical basics and problem solutions for operative and strategic management". In 1999 she was habilitated with the title: "Collective Corporate Strategy. Basic Questions of a Theory of Collective Strategic Action". In 2000 she was appointed to an endowed professorship for business administration, in particular media management, at the University of Flensburg. In 2006 Sjurts accepted an appointment at the University of Hamburg, and in 2009 she took over the management of the Hamburg Media School. In 2015 she became President of the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen.
