With the race, both universities from Hanseatic cities want to demonstrate their special relationship and the sporty competition between them. In the style of the classic Anglo-American university tradition, the two universities hold the Men's Eight race on the Alster accompanied by three shorter pre-races (Women's Double Skulls, Women's Four and Men's Four)SponsorsMain sponsor of the Hanse Boat Race is the Buss Group GmbH & Co. KG. Furthermore the event is supported by the Georg Duncker GmbH & Co. KG. The rowing club Allemannia von 1866 is partner of the HSBA Rowing Teams.
