Internationalisation as strategic goal of HSBA

As young and dynamic University, internationality is an integral part of our strategic direction. HSBA therefore puts a high focus on an international orientation in teaching and research activites. We offer a broad range of english study programmes or modules to our students and encourage our students to study abroad.

Internationalisation does not just take place abroad, but also right here at HSBA: Discover the world from home!

Teaching

Large parts of the Business Administration, Business Informatics and Media Management programmes are held in English (Business Administration will be completely taught in English from 2015/16), and Maritime and Logistics Management are taught and assessed entirely in English. Our master's programmes are entirely taught in English.

Our undergraduate students gain practical and theoretical knowledge during their studies, as they spend about 20 weeks per year in lectures and the remaining 32 weeks in one of our more than 250 cooperating companies, which include AON, British American Tobacco, Deutsche Bank, Hapag Lloyd, OTTO and many more.

Research

International research projects are one of the main pillars in the internationalisation strategy of the HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration.

The City of Hamburg is a much sought after destination not only for students. Also at the research level, numerous projects with international partners are carried out on topics such as port and logistics. Our faculty members are engaged in various research projects in collaboration with colleagues and institutions from all over the world. The HSBA Foundation was founded in 2007 and aims to promote applied research projects.

International Summer Schools

In summer 2014 for the first time HSBA has offered a summer school on business ethics for students from all over the world. The main speaker was the expert on Business Ethics and CR Prof. Dr. Dirk Matten (York University, Toronto). The Summer School will be held annually to a relevant topic in Business Ethics / Corporate Responsibility with renowned lecturers and business representatives. Visit our website for more information on our HSBA Summer School.

HSBA hosted an International Week for its partners every year from 2005 to 2013. The week was used to maintain and strengthen existing partnerships and provided a wonderful opportunity for German and international students to meet. Every year, the schedule included company visits, presentations, workshops and cultural events. From 7 to 11 May 2012, for instance, we invited students, teachers and managerial staff from our international partner universities to Hamburg. The week was themed "Hamburg and the World - International Business and Hanseatic Tradition".

International Lounges

In addition to international events at HSBA, e.g. as part of the International Week, regular presentations and panel discussions take place with international representatives in the Chamber of Commerce. Once a year, the Chamber of Commerce organises "India Week"; it also hosts the "Hamburg Summit - China meets Europe" and organises lectures on topical issues such as "Seltene Erden in der Mongolei (rare earth in Mongolia)" or the German-Arab networking meet-up several times a year. You can find more information here.
If you wish to learn of these events by email, we will be happy to add your address to our mailing list.
