Outgoings Bachelor Partner universities

Partner universities

In addition to cooperating with ERASMUS+ partners, HSBA has also partnerships with universities outside of Europe. One of our specific goals is to continuously expand our range of international contacts at all levels.

The advantages include:

  • No course fees or reduced course fees at the host university
  • Usually no official language proficiency test such as TOEFL or similar
  • Simplified application procedure. The students receive assistance from the International Offices of the home and host universities
  • Past reports from HSBA students are available
  • Contact to former participants in the programme

To support your semester abroad HSBA provides scholarships of the DAAD funded PROMOS programme on a yearly basis.

Please note that some Partner universities (such as the University of Dubai) charge tuition fees.

Financial assistance with PROMOS scholarships

PROMOS is a scholarship programme offered by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) that is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). The aim of the programme is to provide funding for short-term periods abroad and thus to support the Bologna Process.

Currently we co-fund study abroad stays (excluding ERASMUS), Summer Schools and study trips. Calls for applications will be sent to HSBA students via email about twice a year.

In addition to the BaföG study-abroad funding, BaföG recipients can get a reduced part-scholarship instalment from PROMOS funding (the part-scholarship instalments do not have to be credited up to a figure of EUR 300.00). However, they are not entitled to any travel expense allowances. Students who already receive study-abroad funding from the DAAD or from other public-sector sponsors do not qualify for any other funding. This does not apply to any funding provided by Verein der Freunde und Förderer der HSBA.

Students are selected based on their written application and subsequent interviews.

By accepting the scholarship, students agree to write a detailed report on their study-abroad period.

How to apply

Applying for a stay abroad at a partner university takes place in two stages: Applying at HSBA and applying to the partner university. As soon as you have received approval from HSBA we will nominate you to the partner university. The partner university will then send you all of the important information for the application.

Closing date for applications is 15 March for a study abroad semester in the upcoming winter or summer semester at a partner University. Announcement of approvals/refusals: by no later than 1 April (via e-mail).

Remaining places will be announced approx. in Mai and August.

Prerequisites for your application

  • Students must be registered at HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration
  • The first year of study must be completed when commencing the stay abroad
  • Grade average of at least 2.7 (Track B applicants must provide corresponding evidence of this by no later than the date on which the grades are announced; otherwise HSBA reserves the right to withdraw its approval)
  • No more than one failed/incomplete exam when commencing the stay abroad

Language skills

Some of our partner universities require language proficiency in the language of instruction. For information on this, please refer to the information materials of the respective university. Consequently, these documents are a prerequisite for your application at HSBA. Outside of English-speaking countries, pre-existing language skills in the local language are also assessed positively. It is therefore recommended that you acquire basic skills in the language of instruction or the local language before you go abroad. In order to be able to participate actively in events, we recommend language skills at a minimum B2 level of the European Framework. Language skills must be verified as required by the university. We will gladly provide a confirmation of your language skills if sufficient.

Applicants are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Academic and personal Motivation
  • Academic grades obtained at HSBA
  • Proficiency in the respective language of instruction and local language/s
  • Personal dedication (socially, HSBA etc.)

For your application at HSBA, please submit the following documents:

  • Completed application form
  • Curriculum vitae
  • List with relevant courses at the partner institution. Please refer to the currently available course catalogue and the equivalent HSBA modules.
  • A relevant letter of motivation that outlines your motivation for wanting to take part in the exchange programme with the respective university, your academic qualifications and skills, reasons for your choice of modules and their integration in the HSBA degree. The following are also desirable: how can your company benefit from your stay abroad, your individual preparation for the stay abroad, your role as an ambassador for HSBA and Germany as well as your involvement in matters relating to university policy (approximately 2 DIN A4 pages).
  • Transcript of records from HSBA Connect (Track B students should please submit this immediately after receiving the grades.)
  • Substantiation of language skills (e.g. language courses, language certificates or school-leaving grade/s)

Notes on the application:

  • Your course choice is not binding yet (also see "Organisation").
  • Please only submit copies of all official documents (certificates etc.). All documents must be in German. If German is not your first language, you may submit them in English. Letters of recommendation from professors are not required.
  • Please submit the application documents in a transparent cover (no application folders).
  • Please address the application documents to Ms Anna Beek at HSBA’s International Office and hand them in to the Service Office at HSBA.
  • Because the number of applicants per university generally exceeds the number of study places available, we recommend that you apply for several universities. To do this, simply list your chosen universities in order of preference in your application letter (including ERASMUS university partnerships). In your letter of motivation, please include a separate paragraph for each country and each partner university in addition to the general section on your motivation.

When you have been selected by HSBA for your chosen university and you have confirmed your participation, we will nominate you to the partner university. The partner university will send you all further information on applying to that university. You can get confirmations of your English skills from the International Office, while Examination Office will be happy to issue transcripts of records (please specify that you need the transcript for a study-abroad period).
