Outgoings Bachelor ERASMUS+ exchange

Erasmus+ as option to study abroad

The EU-subsidised student exchange programme ERASMUS gives students the opportunity to study and work in 32 different countries. Each year, around 200,000 students use the ERASMUS programme.

The advantages include:

  • No course fees and language proficiency tests at the host university
  • Financial support of 100 EUR - max. 300 EUR per month
  • Additional financial support for students with special needs/children
  • Simplified application procedure.
  • The students receive assistance from HSBA's International Office Advice and support from specialised coordinators at the home and host universities
  • Accommodation in student halls at the host university or assistance in looking for a place to live
  • Large network across all of Europe, e.g. the ERASMUS Student Network (ESN)
  • Past reports from HSBA students are available
  • Contact to former participants in the Programme

In March 2014 HSBA received the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2014-2020 and is currently cooperating with several partners across Europe. New partnerships are constantly being established. Please see here our existing Partners:

How to apply

Applying for a stay abroad at an ERASMUS partner university takes place in two stages: Applying at HSBA and applying to the partner university. As soon as you have received approval from HSBA and confirmed your participation in the ERASMUS programme to us, we will nominate you to the partner university.

The partner university will then send you all of the important information for the application.

Closing date for applications:

31 March for a study abroad semester in the upcoming winter or summer semester at a partner university.

Announcement of approvals/refusals: by no later than 15 April (via e-mail).

Remaining places will be announced approx. in Mai and August.

  • Students must be registered at HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration
  • The first year of study must be completed when commencing the stay abroad
  • University must be an ERASMUS partner University
  • Grade average of at least 2.7 (Track B applicants must provide corresponding evidence of this by no later than the date on which the grades are announced; otherwise HSBA reserves the right to withdraw its approval)
  • No more than one failed/incomplete exam when commencing the stay abroad

All ERASMUS partner universities require language proficiency at minimum B2 level in the language of instruction. You do not have to submit an official language certificate such as TOEFL, but should be able to prove your knowledge. Outside of English-speaking countries, pre-existing language skills in the local language are also assessed positively. It is therefore recommended that you acquire basic skills in the language of instruction or the local language before you go abroad. In order to be able to participate actively in events, we recommend language skills at a minimum B2 level of the European Framework. Language skills can be substantiated using the Abitur school-leaving certificate. Language certificates (e.g. TOEFL, Cambridge, DELE etc.) are not a prerequisite for a successful application, but please feel free to submit them.

Applicants are selected based on the following criteria:

  • Academic and personal Motivation
  • Academic grades obtained at HSBA
  • Proficiency in the respective language of instruction and local language/s
  • Personal dedication (socially, HSBA etc.)

For your application at HSBA, please submit the following documents:

  • Completed application form(available in HSBA Connect)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • List with relevant courses at the partner institution. Please refer to the currently available course catalogue and the equivalent HSBA modules.
  • A relevant letter of motivation that outlines your motivation for wanting to take part in the exchange programme with the respective university, your academic qualifications and skills, reasons for your choice of modules and their integration in the HSBA degree. The following are also desirable: how can your company benefit from your stay abroad, your individual preparation for the stay abroad, your role as an ambassador for HSBA and Germany as well as your involvement in matters relating to university policy (max. 2 DIN A4 pages).
  • Transcript of records from HSBA Connect including a current grade point average (Track B students should please submit this immediately after receiving the grades.)
  • Substantiation of language skills (e.g. language courses, language certificates or school-leaving grade/s)

Notes on the application:

  • Your course choice is not binding yet (also see "Organisation").
  • Please only submit copies of all official documents (certificates etc.). All documents must be in German. If German is not your first language, you may submit them in English. Letters of recommendation from professors are not required.
  • Please submit the application documents in a transparent cover (no application folders).
  • Please address the application documents to Ms Anna Beek at HSBA’s International Office and hand them in to the Service Office at HSBA.
  • Because the number of applicants per university generally exceeds the number of study places available, we recommend that you apply for several universities. To do this, simply list your chosen universities in order of preference in your application letter (including Non-ERASMUS university partnerships). In your letter of motivation, please include a separate paragraph for each country and each partner university in addition to the general section on your motivation.

When you have been selected by HSBA for your chosen university and you have confirmed your participation in the ERASMUS programme, we will nominate you to the partner university. The partner university will send you all further information on applying to that university. You can get confirmations of your English skills from the International Office, while Examination Office will be happy to issue transcripts of records.

All of the required ERASMUS+ documents are available in the International Affairs section in HSBA Connect
