There is always something happening at HSBA...

First Online FiFU in Hamburg was a Great Success

The Institute for Mittelstand and Family Firms (IMF) at HSBA held the 11th Conference of German-Speaking Research Centres and Institutes for Family Businesses (FIFU) as an online conference for the first time - with great success.

Like every year, 120 participants from the network of German-speaking research centres and institutes for family businesses discussed current research topics and practical issues relating to family businesses and their entrepreneurial families over two days in February. The only unusual aspect was the way it was held: due to the ongoing Corona pandemic, the conference could not be held on site in Hamburg as planned, but took place online for the first time in 10 years. But the concept worked well: the exchange was intensive, the mood relaxed and the atmosphere familiar and friendly.

This year's conference motto was "Duality of Family Businesses" and focused on the dialogue between theory and practice. The conference kicked off with a short keynote speech by Henning Fehrmann, Hamburg family entrepreneur and regional chairman of the association Die Familienunternehmer e.V.. Afterwards, eight sessions focused on generations and family resources, strategies, technology, crises and entrepreneurial families, finance, governance and perception, gender and conflicts, culture and values, sustainability and commitment.

We thank all participants as well as the speakers for their valuable contribution. The detailed programme of FIFU 2021 can be found here: Programm FiFU 2021

"It was a very special pleasure and honour for us to have hosted our colleagues virtually in Hamburg for the first time," said Prof. Dr. Peter Klein and Prof. Dr. Stefan Prigge from the Institute for Mittelstand and Family Firms (IMF) at HSBA. "From our point of view, the first Online FIFU was a complete success. The lively discussions and active participation have proven the great interest and the importance of the conference as a platform for scientific exchange. We are definitely looking forward to the next FIFU in March 2022 - whether online, hybrid or in presence!"
