Selection and Admission Process

The process ensures that students have the personal, social and professional prerequisites needed to complete the study programme successfully.

Admission Procedure

To apply for the MSc Digital Transformation & Sustainability, please take a look here.

Please complete your application online and hand in the following documents:

  • English Motivation letter (why are you interested in the specific study programme; maximum one DIN A4 page).
  • Curriculum vitae, preferred in English
  • Work Experience Letter (mandatory for MBA programmes)
  • Letter of recommendation (covering the academic and/or personal aptitude for the programme, preferably written by a current or former employer or former academic teacher with an official letterhead)
  • Degree Certificate, Transcript of Records, official grading scale and/or explanatory notes
  • English certificate (min. B2) if applicable

Please put together your application documents in one PDF document.

After reviewing the documents, a 30-minute telephone interview takes place to discuss the student’s motivation and all queries surrounding the course.

Admission day runs for one day and involves an in-depth assessment of the applicant’s personal and academic suitability. Applicants have the opportunity to get to know the professors, staff and potential fellow students and gain an impression of the university.

Admission day takes place once a month in Hamburg and is held in English.

Important: Due to the current corona virus situation, the Admission Day takes place virtually until further notice. Of course we are in close contact with all candidates to successfully lead them through the admission process.

The applicant is informed in writing of the vote by the admission commission. If there are still places available, a contractual offer is made to the successful applicant. If there are no places left, the applicant is offered a place for the following year.

If applicable, you will be accepted into the JOB & MASTER programme at this time and will of course receive your contract and all other information relevant to the programme.

Applicants receive either a conditional or an unconditional acceptance offer. In the case of a conditional acceptance, the admission offer remains conditional until the conditions mentioned in the admission letter have been met. Conditional acceptance can be the case if for example, a copy of your bachelor's diploma needs to be submitted, if you are required to complete additional modules before the start of the programme or if you are required to pass an entrance examination.

A place is reserved on the course for the applicant after he/she has signed and returned the contract.

If the candidate assessed is also suitable and accepted onto the JOB & MASTER programme, the placement process starts immediately after enrolment for the respective master's degree course.

Within the framework of the JOB & MASTER programme, we help candidates find a suitable company. Cooperating companies use this tool to find new employees for a long-term working relationship.

The placement programme is mainly accessible to applicants for the M.Sc. programmes. In individual cases, MBA candidates may also be placed.

MBA Shipping applicants cannot enter the JOB & MASTER programme.

Once the contract has been signed and returned, the enrolment documents will be sent to you. Please complete the enrolment form and submit it along with evidence of your health insurance (in Germany) and a digital photo. A valid visa, if applicable, must be presented when starting the course.

Once these documents have been handed in and all admission conditions have been met (including payment of the registration fee), you will be formally enrolled.

    Welcome to HSBA!
