Admission Requirements

The HSBA Master's programmes specifically address specifically qualified applicants. The programme starts on 15 August (MSc Business Development and MSc Finance) and 1 October (all other MSc and MBA programmes) each year.

Applications can be made at any time. For candidates who apply while being employed it is recommended to discuss their interest in studying part-time with their employer well in advance.

Overview

On the MSc Business Development the following admission requirements apply:

  • A completed third-level degree in economics or business covering 180 ECTS credits. The third-level degree should have been completed with a minimum German grade “good” (2.5) or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference)
  • Letter of recommendation from a current or former employer or an academic reference.
  • Successfully completed HSBA selection process (written application, telephone interview, admission day).

On the MSc Digital Transformation & Sustainability the following admission requirements apply:

  • A completed third-level degree in economics or business or a hybrid study course covering 180 ECTS credits.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English and German (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference)
  • Letter of recommendation from a current or former employer or an academic reference.
  • Personal recommendation or comparable document proving previous social engagement
  • Successfully completed HSBA selection process (written application, telephone interview, admission day).

On the MSc Finance the following admission requirements apply:

  • A completed third-level degree in economics or business covering 180 ECTS credits. The third-level degree should have been completed with a minimum German grade “good” (2.5) or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference)
  • Letter of recommendation from a current or former employer or an academic reference.
  • Successfully completed HSBA selection process (written application, telephone interview, admission day).

On the MSc Global Management & Governance the following admission requirements apply:

  • A completed third-level degree in economics or business covering 180 ECTS credits. The third-level degree should have been completed with a minimum German grade “good” (2.5) or equivalent.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference)
  • Letter of recommendation from a current or former employer or an academic reference.
  • Successfully completed HSBA selection process (written application, telephone interview, admission day).

On the MSc Real Estate & Leadership the following admission requirements apply:

  • Academic requirements: A completed third-level degree in architecture, construction engineering, urban planning, geomatics, property management, business administration or comparable covering 180 ECTS credits and with the minimum grade “good” (ECTS-grade B).
  • A very good level of mathematical and analytical knowledge: An average of 10,0 points in two semesters of the study course or on the A-levels or an HSBA entrance examination or a similar certificate.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference).
  • One year of practical work experience relevant to the study course (e.g. internships, student assistant).

On the MBA Corporate Management the following admission requirements apply:

  • Two years of management experience.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference).
  • Academic requirements:
    - A completed third-level degree covering 210 ECTS credits and with the minimum grade“good
    or
    - a degree covering 180 ECTS credits with the minimum grade “good” supplemented by one additional year of professional experience or third-level training
    or
    - passing the entrance exam: Applicants without a completed third-level degree but with at least 6 years of professional experience can be accepted onto the entrance exam. The entrance exam comprises a written paper, a 30-minute oral exam and a two-hour written exam. The written paper deals with a management topic. The paper must be 10 to 15 pages long and has to be submitted within four weeks. The entrance exam takes place after the Admission Day.

On the MBA Shipping the following admission requirements apply:

  • Two years of management experience.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference).
  • Academic requirements:
    - A completed third-level degree covering 240 ECTS credits and with the minimum grade “good”.
    or
    - a degree covering 210 (180) ECTS credits with the minimum grade “good” supplemented by one (two) additional year(s) of professional experience or third-level training.
    or
    - passing the entrance exam: Applicants without a completed third-level degree but with at least 6 years of relevant professional experience (e.g. Schifffahrtskaufmann) are admitted under certain conditions and can be accepted onto the entrance exam. The entrance exam comprises a written paper, a 30-minute oral exam and a two-hour written exam. The written paper deals with a management topic. The paper must be 10 to 15 pages long and has to be submitted within four weeks. The entrance exam takes place after the Admission Day.

Applicants with relevant professional experience (e.g. Schifffahrtskaufmann) lacking a university degree are admitted under certain conditions.

On the Executive MBA the following admission requirements apply:

  • Five years of management experience.
  • Ability to complete a course of studies in English (minimum level: B2 of the European Framework of Reference).
  • Academic requirements:
    - A completed third-level degree covering 210 ECTS credits and with the minimum grade “good”
    or
    - a degree covering 180 ECTS credits with the minimum grade “good” supplemented by one additional year of professional experience or third-level training
    or
    - passing the entrance exam: Applicants without a completed third-level degree but with at least 8 years of professional experience can be accepted onto the entrance exam. The entrance exam comprises a written paper, a 30-minute oral exam and a two-hour written exam. The written paper deals with a management topic. The paper must be 10 to 15 pages long and has to be submitted within four weeks. The entrance exam takes place after the Admission Day.
