Successful Launch of the Young Academy @ HSBA

First class of HSBA's new business compact course started on Saturday with motivated students from Hamburg and the surrounding area.

In order to also become more involved in the area of youth development, HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration 2021 has taken over responsibility for the content of the Junge Akademie, which was launched by the Chamber of Commerce more than ten years ago. The first cohort of students to enjoy the new compact format kicked off last weekend with an online session. After a brief welcome by HSBA President Prof. Dr. Insa Sjurts and Colin Rawlins, Head of Executive Education, who was responsible for the content, the participants took a close look at past and present economic trends together with HSBA lecturer and economics expert Dirk Schneider.

"It was a successful start for the new compact course. The students were all super motivated and interested in business topics in many different ways," says Dirk Schneider. "I am very happy that I can contribute to making young people fit for the future."

The new compact format of the Junge Akademie developed by HSBA imparts sound business knowledge, current topics & trends as well as initial contacts to Hamburg's entrepreneurial community in just six months. On eight Saturdays with four lessons each, experts from the business world teach the modules economic trends, start-up: how a company is created and exists, career planning, applied psychology, understanding financial markets, project management, sales and marketing as well as digital future.

We want to focus on the application of knowledge and the fun of learning," says Colin Rawlins, Head of Executive Education at HSBA. "This way students can accomplish the course well in addition to their school challenges and benefit from it."

In addition to the teaching units, the course offers participants the opportunity to learn about selected Hamburg companies in depth and establish initial contacts during fireside chats and speed dating sessions. The Junge Akademie was founded in 2009 by the Chamber of Commerce and Hamburg's business community to build a bridge between school and work at an early stage and to promote the training of suitable skilled workers for Hamburg's business community. The course originally ran for two years.

"We support the Young Academy of the HSBA because the new concept convinced us right away," explains Thomas Wehrli, member of the board of the Ingeborg-Gross-Foundation. "We are particularly interested in supporting youths and young adults in education and training, and for this the Junge Akademie offers a unique practice-based approach with clear added value for the students."

Thanks to the generous support of the Hamburg business community and sponsors such as the Ingeborg Gross Foundation, Ernst & Young, ECE Group Services, Euler-Hermes, BauFi24, Signal Iduna, V.Group and Hamburg Süd various scholarships can be offered to finance the course.
