Prof. Dr Sönke Hartmann receives Best Paper Award

As part of the Dies Academicus celebrations, the HSBA Best Paper Award was presented yesterday to our Professor Dr Sönke Hartmann. The award was given for the article “Fifty years of research on resource-constrained project scheduling explored from different perspectives”, which appeared in the renowned European Journal of Operational Research. The co-authors of the article are Christian Artigues, Directeur de Recherche at the University of Toulouse, and Mario Vanhoucke, Professor at Ghent University.

“The paper deals with research in the field of project scheduling (resource-constrained project scheduling). This is a branch of operations research (OR) that focuses on optimising time and resource planning, particularly (though not exclusively) in projects. The emphasis is not on the management aspect, but rather on the mathematical models and algorithms that can be used in relevant planning software. The paper is a contribution to the 50th anniversary of EURO (Association of European Operational Research Societies),” says Prof. Dr Sönke Hartmann about the article.

Dies Academicus

The Dies Academicus, or Day of Teaching, focused extensively on the topic of internationalisation, particularly on the opportunities and challenges presented by the growing number of international students in everyday university life. Together, we explored the positive impact that international students have on our learning culture, as well as the pedagogical adjustments that are required. An inspiring afternoon full of ideas, practical methods and discussions.
