Our Academic Year in Review: The Evaluation and Progress Report 2020/21

The annual Evaluation and Progress Report provides a comprehensive overview of the quality improvements in the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes in the academic year 2020/2021, internal and external evaluations as well as an outlook on the coming academic year. Here are some highlights.

We are delighted to present our latest HSBA Evaluation and Progress Report, which has been published for the seventh time in a row now. The annual report is a summary of the quality improvements in study and teaching and provides an overview of the various measures taken in the past academic year to drive HSBA forward.

Teaching under Corona conditions

This year was also strongly characterised by the Corona pandemic and the change between face-to-face and online or hybrid teaching. Our students and lecturers were again challenged to the highest degree to adapt flexibly to the different teaching and learning arrangements. The results of our survey on digital teaching during the pandemic show how well students not only adapted to the changed circumstances, but also actively used them for themselves and their teaching and learning success.

According to the survey, students were again very satisfied overall with digital or hybrid teaching in the summer semester of 2021 and satisfaction even slightly exceeded the good values for face-to-face teaching in 2019.  As satisfaction with online teaching had been significantly lower in the first "Corona semester" in 2020, this is proof that the improvements in the area of didactics and equipment were able to achieve the desired success.

Also, students rated their own participation in the courses and that of their fellow students almost as good as in face-to-face teaching in 2019.

Modernised Bachelor: BSc Business Administration

A major milestone achieved by HSBA in the past academic year was the development and subsequent re-accreditation of our modernised BSc Business Administration. A lot of feedback from students and companies went into the revision of the programme. In addition to significantly more elective and specialisation options for students' individual profiling, the programme offers new core modules on contemporary topics and more intensive academic supervision. This enables students to better adapt their higher education to the constantly differentiating requirements of the working and professional environment. The modernised BSc Business Administration will be offered from the academic year 2022.

Outlook:

Our campus: In the 2021/22 academic year, the equipment in the new building will be continuously improved. For example, suitable streaming solutions for the smaller seminar rooms are currently being examined and standing desks for lecturers are being tested. In addition, intensive efforts are being made to find an external catering provider for our students directly on campus and the redesign of the foyer with more seating is also being planned.

HVV SemesterTicket: From the winter semester 2022, the HVV SemesterTicket will be offered to all newly enrolled dual students. This decision is based on two short surveys in which 70% of our student body and 80% of the partner companies were in favour of introducing the HVV SemesterTicket.

Integration of dual study programmes into the modular system: Following the successful re-accreditation of the modernised BSC Business Administration, all other dual study programmes are now also being integrated into the new module system. In this way, all dual students can benefit from the highly up-to-date core curriculum and the expanded range of services offered by the Academic Support Centre.

Sincere thanks go to everyone who supported us in the academic year 2020/21 and stood firmly by our side: Students, alumni, professors, lecturers, the members of the VEEK, the Alumni Association e.V., our Board of Trustees and the Board of Governors, company representatives and, last but not least, our many friends and supporters. Without you, the HSBA would not be what it is today.
