New HSBA compact course in economics for pupils starts for the first time in January 2022

Economic education and thus a good understanding of economics is not sufficiently taken into account in the curricula of many schools. In order to become more involved in the area of youth development, HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration has taken over responsibility for the content of the Junge Akademie, which was launched by the Chamber of Commerce more than 10 years ago: Parallel to their school education, students aged 16 to 19 can acquire an additional qualification in the field of business. The new compact format of the Junge Akademie was developed under the auspices of the HSBA and imparts sound knowledge of business, current topics & trends as well as initial contacts in Hamburg's entrepreneurial community in just six months.

"With the new compact format, we want to make it possible for more young people to participate and focus on the application of knowledge and the fun of learning," says Colin Rawlins, Head of Executive Education at HSBA. "This means students can also afford the course well alongside their school challenges and make it work for them. As a dual business school with 300 partner companies, we have the opportunity to offer a particularly practical and varied learning experience that is geared to the needs of Hamburg's entrepreneurship."

On eight Saturdays with a total of 32 lessons at the new HSBA campus, current economic topics and trends are addressed in addition to teaching basic knowledge. In addition, the course offers students the opportunity to get to know selected Hamburg companies intensively and make initial contacts during fireside chats and speed dating.

In 2009, the Young Academy was founded by the Chamber of Commerce and Hamburg's business community to build a bridge between school and work at an early stage and to promote the training of suitable skilled workers for Hamburg's business community. The course originally ran for two years and comprised a programme of 36 Saturdays with six lessons each.

"The Young Academy is a Chamber of Commerce project that has been successful for many years, providing pupils with important business knowledge," explains Norbert Aust, President of the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce. "I am pleased that this offer is now being continued by HSBA as part of the cooperation with the new platform for lifelong learning."

Thanks to the generous support of the Hamburg business community and sponsors such as the Ingeborg Gross Foundation, Ernst & Young, ECE Group Services, Euler-Hermes, BauFi24 and Signal Iduna, various scholarships can be offered to finance the course.
