HanseMerkur Supports Insurance Management at HSBA

For more than ten years, the HanseMerkur Insurance Group has been training dual students in business administration and business informatics together with the Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA). Now the Hamburg-based insurer is expanding its commitment and will sponsor the professorship of insurance expert Professor Florian Elert for the next few years. The aim is to educate even more young specialists and managers at the highest academic level and to further strengthen Hamburg's position as a centre for the insurance industry in the long term. In addition, the company is also committed to providing optimal study conditions and is the sponsor of a seminar room.

"We are very grateful for the support of the HanseMerkur Insurance Group," said Professor Tim Goydke, President of the Hamburg School of Business Administration at the symbolic inauguration and handover of the keys to the HanseMerkur seminar room. "This kind of support enables us to break new ground in teaching and research. We are very grateful to the HanseMerkur Insurance Group for this!"

"For 20 years, thanks to HSBA, Hamburg has been able to enjoy excellent education and forward-looking partnerships. We are proud to help shape and support this," says Eberhard Sautter, Chairman of the Board of HanseMerkur. "With our funding, we would like to contribute to strengthening Hamburg as a business and insurance location. Optimally trained students are the key to this. In Professor Florian Elert, HSBA has an experienced insurance expert who has been strongly committed to insurance teaching and the topic of innovation for many years."

Professor Florian Elert has been responsible for practice-oriented teaching and research in the field of insurance management at HSBA for nine years. He has extensive experience as a manager in the insurance industry and is the founder and organiser of the Hamburg Insurance Innovation Day, co-founder and technical director of the InsurTech-Werft, and managing director of the HSBA spin-off ITW Institute for Transformation and Further Education in Insurance.

"With the financial support of HanseMerkur, we can further expand our range of practice-oriented teaching and research in the field of insurance. This will benefit students specialising in insurance management in the dual bachelor's degree programmes in Business Administration and Business Informatics, as well as companies in our industry in Hamburg," said Professor Elert about the donation.

Professor Elert's research interests include topics such as the effects of digitalisation on business models in the insurance industry, the digital transformation of insurance companies and sales, and business model innovation in the insurance industry.

At HSBA, students in the dual Bachelor's degree programmes in Business Administration and Business Informatics can specialise in risk and insurance management. As part of this specialisation, students receive comprehensive training in the field of risk and insurance management and are optimally prepared for the requirements of companies in the insurance industry.
