Fit for a Career Start: First Year Young Academy @ HSBA Celebrates Graduation

First HSBA business compact course for students from Hamburg and the surrounding area comes to a successful end

After six months, the first course of the Junge Akademie @HSBA ended last Saturday with an outlook into the digital future. To pay tribute to the participants of the first year of the new business compact course, HSBA President Prof. Dr. Insa Sjurts did not miss the opportunity to personally congratulate them on successfully completing the course.

"We very much hope that we can help make the transition from school to the world of business a little easier with this new format," says Insa Sjurts. "The sound business knowledge and initial contacts to Hamburg's business community are a good starting point for a successful start into professional life."

In 2021, HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration took over responsibility for the content of the Junge Akademie (Young Academy) from the Chamber of Commerce in order to become more involved in the area of youth development. The new format is intended to enable even more young people to participate alongside school. In addition to the application of knowledge, the focus is also on the fun of learning.

"Overall, the scope and content of the course was well evaluated by the participants and the learning methods and practical knowledge were also really well received," explains Colin Rawlins, Head of Executive Education at HSBA. "We are already looking forward to the next course starting in summer!

Siri S. and Laura C., participants of the first Junge Akademie @HSBA, also draw a positive balance: "I was able to take a lot away from my time at the Junge Akademie, not only did I get to know new people, but I was also able to expand my knowledge of economic topics. At the same time, I also became aware of my personal strengths and what field of study I would like to pursue later," says Siri.
"For me, the Junge Akademie was very interesting. Among the participants were enthusiastic students who wanted to get to grips with the topics of economics. After the modules could take place on site again, we could also enjoy the great atmosphere of the new HSBA building," explains Laura. "Not only the modules, but also the fact that we were able to get in touch with representatives of companies through fireside chats was great. For me, the Junge Akademie was a nice introduction to the topic of career choice. It was a great time."

With 8 Saturdays and a total of 32 teaching hours, the course can also be easily completed by pupils in parallel to their school challenges. In addition, the Junge Akademie offers fireside chats at various partner companies such as Ernst & Young, ECE or Allianz Trade, where the respective current topic from the learning modules is deepened and the companies introduce themselves.

Thanks to the generous support of the Hamburg business community and sponsors such as the Ingeborg Gross Foundation, Ernst & Young, ECE Group Services, Euler-Hermes, BauFi24, Signal Iduna and Hamburg Süd various scholarships can be offered to finance the course.

"We support the Young Academy of the HSBA because the new concept convinced us right away," explains Thomas Wehrli, member of the board of the Ingeborg-Gross-Foundation. "We are particularly interested in supporting youths and young adults in education and training, and for this the Junge Akademie offers a unique practice-based approach with clear added value for the students."
