
In General Management, business accounting, finance as well as theoretical economic principles are laid down.
Additionally, the students shall gain advanced knowledge in the fields of strategy, marketing, human resources and organization as well as in leadership. The focus lies primarily on understanding the basic concepts as well as on their application on real business.
The lectures in this module will be given by Prof. Christoph Bauer, Professor of Finance at HSBA, and Prof. Henning Vöpel, Professor of Economics at HSBA.
In the first lectures the students are introduced to the field of Maritime Economics & Policy. The students shall revisit or gain advanced knowledge in the fields of maritime economics and policy-making with a focus on the IMO regulatory framework and on the foundamentals of Maritime Economics. Special attention is given to topics related to the financial impact or assessment of policies as well as on the economic analysis of operational decisions. The module addresses additionally Maritime Logistics and Networks in which students gain advanced knowledge in the fields of maritime logistics with a focus on the methodological aspects. Topics on intermodalism, networks, liner shipping and port management will be discussed. The module will be coordinated and partially delivered by Prof. Dr. Sönke Hartmann; topics on port management, ownership and finance will be covered by Prof. Dr-Ing Orestis Schinas.
This module is offered with the kind assistance and active support of the international legal firm DLA Piper in Hamburg. The students shall gain advanced knowledge in the fields of maritime law and insurance with a focus on Carriage of Goods by Sea, Charterparties and their implications, Marine Insurance and Protection Schemes as well as Claims and practical implications. Mr. Carsten Grau (http://www.dlapiper.com/carsten_grau/) will deliver the module and external experts will be invited to share experiences and provide expert opinions on special topics.
The students shall gain advanced knowledge in the fields of ship finance, acquisition of ships, as well as commercial and technical management of ships with a focus on the methodological aspects. The module aims to provide a solid basis and understanding of modern fleet and ship management and is directly combined with the International Maritime Business module. The module will be coordinated and partially delivered by Prof. Dr-Ing Orestis Schinas; Mr Max Johns will deliver topics in ship finance; Mr. Carsten Grau will deliver topics in chartering and other market experts and professional will enrich the module with the practical aspects of day-to-day management.
The students shall gain international experience and become acquainted with London, as a leading global business center. The focus of the module lies primarily on financial issues as well as on global business management. Visits to P&I Clubs, financial institutions, as well as specialized environmental expert-firms and the IMO are only part of the expected schedule. Moreover the students will have the unique opportunity to discuss the issue of management of multicultural international groups of experts and legal advisors, a session organized by DLA Piper in London. Further parts of the module will be offered in Dubai, where students shall gain international experience and become acquainted with the dynamic markets of Asia and Middle East. The focus of the module is primarily on logistics issues as well as on intercultural business management. Prof. Dr-Ing Orestis Schinas will coordinate the module and the experts of the University of Dubai, as well as local business leaders will present the cases and discuss the topics. Mr. Joseph Nijoe, http://www.hklaw.com/id77/biosnmjoseph/ attorney at Holland & Knight, is the key expert on Islamic finance and related business issues, and he is also engaged in the coordination and the delivery of the course.
In this two-week course in Piraeus the students shall gain international experience and become acquainted with the Greek shipping community. The focus of the module lies on maritime business and especially on chartering case studies, claims handling, technical management of ships and examples of business development. The module will be coordinated by Prof. Dr-Ing Orestis Schinas and the experts of the Hellenic Shipbrokers Association, as well as local business leaders will present the cases and discuss the topics. Mr. John Pachoulis http://www.hsa.gr/, Chairman of the Hellenic Shipbrokers Association, is the key expert involved in the coordination and the delivery of the course.
The course aims to offer the student an integrated approach on the business development issues in the maritime industry. The goal is to get students to combine knowledge gained in other modules, to interactively examine successful business cases and to learn about best practices. The module will be coordinated by Prof. Dr-Ing Orestis Schinas; market experts, company representatives and business decision-makers will discuss with the students their experiences and cases.
