Financing

Students at the HSBA benefit from the extensive participation of our partner companies in paying their tuition fees. This contribution currently amounts on average to 70 per cent of the fees for the courses of study in Business Administration, Logistics Management and Media Management, which is equivalent to € 12,600. In addition, the training companies pay HSBA students a remuneration in line with that usual in their business. In the first year of study, this amounts on average to € 600, in the second year to € 700 and in the third year to € 800.

For financial requirements exceeding these amounts, HSBA students are especially eligible for further scholarships, which may be awarded, for example, by the following foundations:

Further information on scholarships can be found on the Internet pages of the Bundesverwaltungsamts (Federal Administration Office), on the Internet platform for Begabtenförderung im Hochschulbereich (Sponsorship of talented university students) and in the on-line encyclopaedia WIKIPEDIA.

The Übersee Club offers special support by granting scholarships to HSBA students.

An important and financially valuable advantage for students at the HSBA is the central and extremely accessible location of our university in the city of Hamburg. If, for example, a student must travel 70 kilometres every day by car or train to reach the university or requires a second residence, that will cost some € 750. These additional costs do not arise for students living in Hamburg. Moreover, HSBA students do not have to pay any semester fees.

A further financial advantage is that, after the three years of study, an HSBA student is able to earn a salary six months before a student at most other universities. This advantage is reinforced by the outstanding employment opportunities on graduation – 85 per cent of HSBA students have already signed a contract of employment two months before the end of their studies or have a place on a company’s management training programme – and the above-average career and earnings opportunities.

So that everyone interested in studying at the HSBA who fulfils the admission requirements has enough to live on and can pay the tuition fees even in exceptional circumstances, the following banks offer loans on particularly favourable conditions:

  • Commerzbank, contact person: Ms Prause, Tel. 040 - 36 83 - 27 50
  • Deutsche Bank, contact person: Ms Dill, Tel. 040 - 450 13 523
  • Dresdner Bank, contact person: Ms Hahn, Tel. 040 - 35 01 - 29 24 / Ms Borgwardt, Tel. 040 - 3501 - 3088
  • Hamburger Sparkasse, contact person: see branch directory, Tel. 040 - 3579 - 0

In addition, we are developing a scholarship programme for our Bachelor graduates to finance a Master’s degree course. In cooperation with the Hamburger Stiftung zur Förderung internationaler Forschungs- und Studienvorhaben (Hamburg Foundation for the Sponsorship of International Research and Study Projects) the HSBA currently awards two scholarships, each worth € 15.000. The number of scholarships will be increased in the coming years.
