MBA Shipping: First shipping students graduate from HSBA
Eight students have completed the study programme started in 2012
HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration has had its first eight students graduate from the MBA Shipping study programme launched in 2012. Course Head Prof. Orestis Schinas is delighted to see how established the part-time master’s degree has become, saying: “There is nothing else comparable on offer in Germany.” He explained that the study programme is characterised by a strong international approach, a heavy gearing toward practice and a focus on the strategic challenges facing the industry. According to Schinas "the students on the first year of the programme were extremely dedicated”. He said that the students contributed their experiences from different companies and areas within the maritime sector, leading to interesting discussions. And the professor is also satisfied with the dissertations: “The projects are of high quality and form an excellent combination of theory with current topics from practice.”
Class spokesperson Svante Matthias Fink confirms the positive conclusions drawn by Schinas: “My expectations have been met in full. The study programme has allowed me to broaden and deepen my knowledge and now I can cover a significantly wider range in the company.” As particularly enriching he rates the international nature of the English-language study programme, with stations in the shipping centres of London, Piraeus and Dubai and students from all over the world.
The study programme is supported by Hamburg’s Chamber of Commerce, Verband Deutscher Reeder (The German Shipowners’ Association), Vereinigung Hamburger Schiffsmakler und Schiffsagenten (Hamburg Shipbrokers’ Association) and the Hellenic Shipbrokers Association.
Places are still available for the programme commencing in October 2014. Further information is available at: http://www.hsba.de/en/study/master/mba-shipping/overview/
