HSBA hockey team
Hockey has a long tradition at universities across the world. Within Germany, Hamburg is a modern bastion of German hockey, with the highest number of players and the most successful teams in the country. In keeping with the classic Anglo-American business school approach, hockey is one of the core sports played at HSBA. Partnered with the Uhlenhorst Hockey Club e.V. (UHC) and the Harvestehuder Tennis and Hockey Club e.V. (HTHC), HSBA is also associated with two Olympic winners in alumni Moritz Fürste and Florian Fuchs.
Any students interested in playing on our hockey team should please contact Maria Thoms or Jonas Först. Anyone who is not a student at HSBA should initially contact Klaus Waubke (see right).

The HSBA women's and men's teams participate in a range of competitions:
Anglo-German Hockey Trophy
Hockey in London - with two national goal keepers!
The members of the Hamburg teams learned two important things on that wonderful weekend: that the way sport brings people and nations together is a beautiful thing; and, that no matter what circles or levels of society you move in, when in the United Kingdom, the celebrations will be legion.
But first things first - September 2014 saw the Imperial College (IC) hockey team spending three days on the HTHC grounds. Our friends from London then took up the baton and organised a brilliant weekend for 2015. It started with a tour of the IC business school. The fun continued into the evening with a welcome reception in the dignified East India Club in the St. James quarter - a club linked to the event's patrons, the Anglo-German Club. On the Saturday, the sports competition began in earnest. Both teams were in top form, and the international mix of players in both teams was a truly stand-out feature - with the national goal keepers from Trinidad and Tobago and Italy facing off across the field! The games were quite even, with IC recovering from the crushing defeats last year due to a weakened team. The women's IC team sought revenge for their 2014 loss, and got it with a 7:1 win. The HSBA men defended their title in a very competitive match, winning 4:2. The competition also saw the first ever mixed match, with teams consisting not just of both women and men, but also students from both universities, with the focus not as much on winning, but on emphasising that everyone could play together regardless of gender or institution.
The games were followed by an open-air barbeque on the IC grounds, with prizes being awarded, along with the "Man of the Match" - or "Woman of the Match" as the case may be... with new friendships created and existing friendships solidified. This was helped by the billeting system that saw Hamburg players staying with the London players in their homes. Of course, the London nightlife was also put to the test and passed with flying colours. The benchmark for next year's competition has been set - and set high.
Bring on 2016 and see you in Hamburg, folks!
